Green beans with pesara pappu (moong dal) is a one of the traditional curries from an Andhraite’s kitchen
Cooking time : 20 mins
Prep time : 10 mins (soak pesara pappu – 45 mins before cooking)
Green beans – Finely cut into desired shape
Pesara pappu (moong dal) – 1/2 cup soaked in water 45 mins before cooking.
*Ratio for green beans and dal: For every 1/2 kg of beans soak 1/2 cup dal*
Green chillies- 2 finely chopped
Oil – 1 1/4 table spoons
Salt to taste
Seasoning: Chana dal, mustard seeds, jeera-1/4 table spoon each; 3 red chillies, one pinch each of heeng and turmeric powder.
1) In a deep frying pan, heat oil, add seasoning, green chillies and let it pop.
2) Add green beans and stir them for 5 mins.
3) Now add pesara pappu (moong dal) – lower the heat to a medium, add 2 table spoons of water, and cover the pan with a lid. Let it cook for 7-8 mins.
4) Add salt to taste; mix thoroughly.
Curry is ready to serve. Best when served with rice 🙂
