Spinach (Palak) Curry

Remember ‘Popeye, The Sailor Man’ ? He played such an important role in my childhood by tricking me into eating spinach! Here is a simple recipe for spinach curry. 

** Spinach curry **

Preparation time: 10 mins

Cooking time: 15 mins 


Spinach – 1 lb (1/2 kg, washed thoroughly, chopped)

Green chillies – 4 (finely chopped)

Salt to taste 

For seasoning: 

Mustard seeds – 1/2 table spoon

Chana dal – 1/2 table spoon

Urad dal- 1/2 table spoon

Oil – 1 table spoon


1) In a heated skillet, add 1 table spoon oil, mustard seeds, chana dal, and urad dal; let them pop. 

2) Now lowering the heat, add the chopped spinach and green chillies. Let them cook for about 10 minutes. 

3) Add salt and mix well. 

Spinach curry is ready! Best when served with rice or pulka.
