Moog dal khichadi is very healthy and easy to make. I call this the trick-n-treat dish of our house. As a child, I passionately disliked moong dal so my mom tried a variety of dishes and this worked the best for me. Over the past few years I have started liking moong dal and cook in various forms.
**Moong dal khichadi**
Preparation time: 7 mins
Cooking time: 25 mins
Bastmati rice – 1 cup
Moong dal – 3/4 cup
Red chili powder – 1 table spoon
Dhaniya powder – 1 table spoon
Salt to taste
For seasoning: mustard seeds (2 table spoons), chana dal (1 table spoon), dried red chillies (2), and oil (2 table spoons)
1) Wash the rice and moong dal thoroughly before cooking. Cook them together in an electric rice cooker (takes 20 minutes to cook) or a traditional pressure cooker (takes 17 minutes to cook).
2) After the rice is cooked, add salt to taste, dhaniya powder, and red chilli powder ( 1 table spoon each) and mix thoroughly.
3) In a small pan, heat oil for seasoning. Add the mustard seeds, chana dal, and red chilli powder and let them pop. Add the seasoning into the cooked rice.
Moong dal khichadi is ready to eat! Best when served with papad, pickle, and raita.
