Jeera (Cumin) Rice

Too tired to cook something yummy..!? Try jeera rice!!

** Jeera rice**

Cooking time: 20 mins

Preparation time: 15 mins


Jeera (cumin) – 500 grams

Basmati rice – 2 cups (Each cup = 250 ounces)

Red Chilli powder – 2 table spoons

Dhaniya powder – 1 table spoon

Salt to taste

Coriander to garnish

*Please note that the ratio of jeera variates with the number of rice cups*


1) In a pan, dry fry (no oil) cumin until it slightly changes the color to dark brown. Let it cool to room temperature; grind cumin and red chilli powder to fine powder.

2) In an electric rice cooker, cook the basmati rice.

3) Add the cumin+chilli powder to cooked rice and mix thoroughly. Add salt to taste and dhaniya powder to this rice and mix well.

4) Garnish with coriander and add a dab of ghee (optional).

Jeera rice is ready to eat! Best when served with dal makhani, pickle, or papad and raita.
